We were down to the last 37 players for Round 4 – the last round before the World Cup break. Five different teams were picked in this round. Full results can be viewed here, summary is below:
On Saturday, in the lunchtime game, Manchester City took on Brentford at the Etihad – Martin McShane had picked City to win this one but he exits after a 2-1 win for the Bees. In the 3pm games, Liverpool faced Southampton at Anfield – 23 players were hoping the Reds could make it two wins on the bounce and they were rewarded with a 3-1 win. Tottenham entertained Leeds at the Tottenham stadium – 8 players were hoping for Spurs to bounce back from last week’s defeat and there must have been a few squeaky bums as Spurs finally won a topsy-turvy game 4-3. In the Saturday night game, Wolves welcomed league leaders Arsenal to Molineux – Dave Brown and Pauline Jackson had picked the Gunners and no selection was submitted from Katie McQuade, so she got Arsenal by default. A 2-0 win for Arsenal sees them 3 through.
On Sunday, Brighton took on Aston Villa at the Amex – Adam Dealing and Ben Donafee had picked the Seagulls but a 2-1 win for Villa sees them drop out.
Just the three casualties in this round means we have 34 players still standing when this game resumes after the World Cup.
