LMS – Game 1 – Round 1 Results

The first LMS game of the season kicked off this weekend. I had missed an entry on the first update (Paul Allman) so we now have 107 entries for this game, meaning a prize pot of £535. All ten fixtures featured with twelve different teams picked in this opening round.

View PDF update

Friday night saw the opening game at Selhurst Park between Crystal Palace and Arsenal – Gareth Hamilton, Jack Lockley and Sandra Emmett had picked the Gooners and go through with a 2-0 win.
Saturday lunchtime game saw newly promoted Fulham taking on the Liverpool, at Craven Cottage – 17 players had picked the Reds to make a winning start but a 2-2 draw sees them become the first players to exit this game. In the 3pm games, Bournemouth welcomed Aston Villa to the Vitality Stadium on their return to the top flight – Jenny Rothwell had picked Bournemouth, while Kyle McLellan, Peter Donnelly Snr and Lee Abbott had picked Villa – a 2-0 win for Bournemouth sees Jenny through and an exit for Kyle, Peter and Lee. Leeds took on Wolves at Elland Road – Gary Donely had picked the Yorkshire men with Dave Weston and Greg Roberts both fancying Wolves – it’s Gary who goes through after a 2-1 win for Leeds. Newcastle faced Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park – 20 players tipped the Geordies to kick off with a win and they go through after a 2-0 win. Tottenham played Southampton at the Tottenham Stadium – 43 players made Spurs the favourites in this round – a convincing 4-1 win saw them safely through. In the Saturday evening game, Everton faced Chelsea at Goodison Park – Andy Burns had tipped Chelsea to win here and goes through after a 1-0 win.
Onto Sunday, Leicester entertained Brentford at the King Power Stadium – Neil Metcalf, Elliot Mitchell, Nick Breakspear and Lisa Mensah had picked the Foxes to win but a 2-2 draw sees them go out. Manchester United started the Ten Haag era with a vist to Old Trafford from Brighton – 9 players had picked United here but a 2-1 win for the Seagulls takes them out as well. The final game of the opening weekend saw West Ham host the champions, Manchester City, at the London Stadium – Ste Matthews and Vikki Darby had picked City and both go through after a 2-0 win.

So, 35 players exit at the first hurdle, leaving 72 players still standing for Round 2. Deadline for Round 2 is NOON on Friday 12th August.

LMS – Game 3 – Round 1 Results

3rd-5th December

The 3rd LMS game of the season kicked off with 118 players taking part, hoping to win the prize pot of £590. Nine different teams had been picked in this opening round. Brentford v Newcastle was the only game that didn’t feature.

Things were meant to kick off with a Saturday lunchtime derby as Everton were due to welcome Liverpool for the last ever league derby at Goodison Park – Allan Jones, Dave Nicholls, Jack Smith, Paul Boddy and Paul Hallett had picked the Reds – the game was postponed due to storm Darragh and they progress to the next round, as per rule 10. In the 3pm games, Aston Villa played bottom of the table Southampton at Villa Park – 73 players had picked Villa (this is the most picks in any round ever) and they went through with a 1-0 win. Crystal Palace hosted Manchester City at Selhurst Park – 9 players had been hoping for a City win but a 2-2 draw saw them drop out (including Game 2’s winner, Ken Nelson). In the teatime game, Manchester United faced Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford – 8 players had picked United but the new manager bounce has gone and a 3-2 defeat sees them exit.
On Sunday, Fulham played Arsenal at Craven Cottage – 13 players had picked the Gunners but a late VAR decision meant that this game finished 1-1 and they exit. Ipswich took on Bournemouth at Portman Road – Becci Morton, Carl Jackson, Lisa Mensah and Martin Grierson had picked the Cherries and a 95th minute winner to make it 2-1 just about edges them through. Leicester faced Brighton at the King Power stadium – Ben Donafee, Gary Donely and Gemma Jackson had picked the Seagulls and, despite leading 2-0, they drop out after a 2-2 draw. The late Sunday game saw a London derby as Tottenham hosted Chelsea at the Tottenham stadium – David Hegarty had picked Chelsea. It came to light after the deadline that he thought this new game kicked off with last week’s midweek game and thought he had picked Chelsea to beat Southampton! However, despite going 2 goals down, a 4-3 win puts him through (pay more attention next time!
On Monday night, West Ham played Wolves at the London stadium – Michael Grierson and Tony Smith had picked the Hammers and a 2-1 win puts them through.

In total, 33 players drop out at the first hurdle, leaving 85 players still standing for Round 2. Deadline for Round 2 is Friday 13th December at noon. A full update can be viewed here.

LMS – Game 2 – Complete!!

3rd-5th December

Just 2 players were still standing for Round 7. They both picked different teams for this round – neither of them could pick Arsenal, Liverpool, either Manchester club or Tottenham.

On Wednesday night, Southampton hosted Chelsea at St Mary’s – Ken Nelson was the only one left who could pick Chelsea and he eased through with a 5-1 win.
Ken then had a nervous wait to see if he had won the pot until Thursday night, when Fulham faced Brighton at Craven Cottage, as Nick Carr had picked the Seagulls. A 3-1 win for the Cottagers meant that Nick drops out – leaving Ken as the winner of the pot!

Congratulations to Ken – £550 on the way to him! This is Ken’s 2nd LMS win, after winning £215 in Game 1 of the 2017/18 season. Commiserations to Nick!

A reminder that game 3 starts this weekend – deadline is 6pm. Currently got 55 confirmed entries – expecting the usual late rush before deadline!
