LMS – Game 1 – Round 5 Results

16th-18th September

52 players were still standing for Round 5, as we resumed action after the international break. Five different teams had been picked in this round.

On Saturday, in the 3pm games, Fulham hosted Luton at Craven Cottage – 18 players had picked the Cottagers to continue Luton’s pointless streak and a 1-0 win was enough to see them through. Tottenham hosted Sheffield United at the Tottenham stadium – 26 players had picked Spurs in this one, making them the most popular pick in this round with half the remaining players picking them and it looked like an LMS upset was on the cards until 2 injury time goals saw Spurs win 2-1! In the Saturday teatime game, Newcastle took on Brentford at St James’ Park – Dan Milton, Gemma Jackson, Paul Allman, Pauline Jackson and Vikki Darby were backing the Magpies to bounce back after a couple of recent defeats and an edgy 1-0 saw them progress.
On Sunday, Everton were still looking for their 1st win of the season as Arsenal headed to Goodison Park – Graeme Tinker and Lin Maiden expected the Blues to still be looking for their 1st win after this game and they are, after another 1-0 win.
Finally, on Monday night, Nottingham Forest welcomed Burnley to the City ground – Alfie Robinson had picked Forest to leave Burnley still looking for their 1st point.

Deadline for Round 6 is noon on Friday 22nd September.

Super 6 Cup Competitions

As previously advised, I was making the draw for the Super 6 cup competitions during the international break. The League Cup will be in the format of the Champions League – 8 groups, playing each other twice with the winners and runners-up in each group progressing to the last 16 which will be a knockout format. The Knockout Cup is a straightforward knockout competition.

The draw has been done for both competitions – these were seeded, based on the league table as at 3rd September.

In the League Cup, the group stage will have 10 rounds of games – this will kick off with the next round of games after the international break – 16th September. The draw can be viewed here – this will be updated with results after each round of games. A lot of the rounds will be over consecutive weeks with a view of wrapping up the group stage by Christmas – so don’t forget to do your predictions!!

The Knockout Cup will start on the weekend of 30th October – the top 13 in the table (as at 3rd September) received a bye to Round 2. The other 26 will play in Round 1. The draw can be viewed here.

The full fixture schedule for both competitions can be viewed on the Super 6 page – there is a permanent link at the top of the blog.

Any questions/comments feel free to ask!!

LMS – Game 1 – Round 4 Results

1st-3rd September

83 players were still standing for Round 3. Eight different teams had been picked in this round, one of them by default.

On Friday night, Luton finally had their first home game as they welcomed West Ham to Kenilworth Road – 14 players had picked the Hammers to upset the party and, despite a late Luton goal a 2-1 win saw them through.
On Saturday, in the early kickoff, Sheffield United hosted Everton at Bramall Lane. Steve Rogers had expected Everton to finally get off the mark which they did, but only a 2-2 draw and he drops out. In the 3pm games, Brentford took on Bournemouth at the Gtech Community Stadium – 13 players had picked the Bees but another 2-2 draw saw them also drop out. Burnley were still looking for their first point of the season as Tottenham headed to Turfmoor – Alfie Robinson, Dan Milton, Janet Carr, and Pauline Jackson had been looking for a Spurs win though and they eased through after a 5-2 win. Chelsea faced Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge – 16 players had picked Chelsea but a shock 1-0 for Forest saw them drop out. Manchester City played Fulham at the Etihad – 33 players had picked the league leaders and a 5-1 win saw them progress.
On Sunday, Crystal Palace played Wolves at Selhurst Park – Ralph Dealing had picked the Eagles and he goes through with a 3-2 win. At the same time, Liverpool welcomed Aston Villa to Anfield – no entry had been received from Tony Ainsworth, so he got Villa by default and goes out after a 3-0 win to the Reds.

In total, 31 players drop out, leaving 52 players still standing as we head into the international break after this round. Deadline for Round 5 is noon on Friday 15th September.

LMS – Game 1 – Round 3 Results

25th-27th August
First of all, I want to address the position on default picks. I make it pretty clear in the rules and the regular updates that the deadline is Friday lunchtime – the only time this will change is any midweek rounds or around the Christmas games. I only issue a default as a last resort – as demonstrated by the mess I made trying to accommodate 3 late entries that came in as I was just about to send Friday’s update. I send an email reminder to anyone who hasn’t submitted an entry by Friday morning and also send a chaser later in the morning if still not received – I also try to text/WhatsApp if I have a players number (if you want to drop your number to me to add to my contacts then feel free!). I always acknowledge selections with a reply to emails/texts – if you don’t get a reply from me then I haven’t received it!!

109 players were still standing for Round 3. Nine different teams had been picked in this round. Four players did not submit a pick this week and received a default pick. Everton v Wolves was the only match that nobody had touched.

On Friday night, Chelsea were still looking for their first win of the season as they welcomed Luton to Stamford Bridge – 61 players had picked Chelsea and there was to be no upset with a 3-0 win for Chelsea.
On Saturday, in the lunch time game, Bournemouth faced Tottenham at the Vitality stadium – Gemma Jackson and Hayley Beaton had picked Spurs and progress courtesy of a 2-0 win. In the 3pm games, Arsenal hosted Fulham at the Emirates – 16 players had picked the Gunners, including Dave Latham, John Lamming and Peter Collins who had not submitted a pick and this game saw the first LMS upset of this game with a 2-2 draw sending the 16 out. Brentford took on Crystal Palace at the Gtech Community stadium – Dave Phillips, Henry Archer, Ste Milton, Ste Wilkinson and Tony Raybould had picked the Bees but a 1-1 draw sees them also crash out. Manchester United faced Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford – 15 players had picked United and another upset was on the cards but a 3-2 win for United sees them through. In the tea-time game, Brighton played West Ham at the Amex – Jack Horsler, Joey O’Brien, Linda Beaumont and Pat Boddy had picked the Seagulls but a 3-1 win for the Hammers saw them bow out.
On Sunday afternoon, Burnley had a visit from Aston Villa to Turfmoor – Olly Woodward had picked Villa – Paul Hallett had Villa by default – they both go through after a 3-1 win for Villa. Sheffield United welcomed Manchester City to Bramall Lane – Gary Nelson, Kenny Rogers and Shaun Magee had picked City and had a late scare before City went on to win 2-1. Later on in the afternoon, Newcastle hosted Liverpool at St James’ Park – Ken Nelson had picked the Magpies but he exits after a late Darwin Nunez double (UTFR!!) and I know Ken wont be too upset with his exit!

In total, 26 players dropped out in this round, leaving 83 players still standing (down to double figures!). Deadline for Round 4 is noon on Friday 1st September.

A full update can be viewed here, which shows previous rounds and players that have dropped out.
