LMS – New Game!

Game 3 – Starts 7th December

Game 2 has just entered Round 7 and is now down to 2 players – meaning that prize pot must be won. It also means we can start Game 3 of the season!

For those that haven’t played before – you need to pick a team that you think will win their game that weekend – they win and you go through: draw or lose and you are out. Rinse and repeat for subsequent rounds until the last person is standing and takes the prize pot – you can’t pick the same team twice. Full rules can be viewed in the links above, as can previous games. Entry is £5 and you must send me an email (martin.grierson@gmail.com) by 6pm on Friday 6th December with your selection for Round 1. First four sets of fixtures below, to let you plan ahead (you only need to let me know Round 1 to start with though!). If you need the payment details then let me know.

LMS – Game 2 – Round 6 Results

29th November – 1st December

We were down to single figures, with just 7 players still standing for Round 6. Two different teams had been picked – nobody could pick Liverpool, Manchester United, or Tottenham.

There was a Friday night game in this round, as Brighton had a south coast derby clash with Southampton at the Amex – Andrew Wilkinson, Chris Grierson, Kevin Murphy, Martin McShane and Steve Watson had picked the Seagulls to come out on top here but a 1-1 draw saw them crash out.
On Saturday evening, there was another derby – this time in London – as West Ham hosted Arsenal at the London Stadium – Ken Nelson and Nick Carr had picked the Gunners and were hoping for a win to ensure that they had a chance to win the prize pot – a 5-2 win for Arsenal ended any hopes for the rest of us for a rollover!

Deadline for Round 7 is TUESDAY 3rd December at noon – so Ken and Nick need to get their picks for Round 7 in quickly! Neither of them can pick Arsenal, Liverpool, either Manchester club or Tottenham. This also means we can start Game 3 – which I will send a separate mail out about – to start next weekend. A full update can be viewed here. You can see who has what teams left to pick at the foot of this mail.

Super 6 Cups

League Cup
The 5th round of games took place last weekend (23rd-24th November). Results and updated tables can be viewed here – there was quite a few 4-4 draws! We are now at the halfway point of this tournament – everyone has played 4 games each. The 6th round of games is this coming weekend – 30th November.

Knockout Cup
The 2nd Round took place last weekend. As mentioned above, 4 was a very popular score – 7 of the 16 ties finished 4-4 and will be replayed this coming weekend. Results and the 3rd Round draw can be viewed here (if your score is blank then it was 4-4 – I can only put the draw result in when the tie is complete!). A reminder that in the event of a drawn replay then the tie will be determined by the number of correct results, followed by the nearest guess to the Golden Goal.

23rd-25th November

Web SiteLMS RulesHall of Fame

15 players were still standing for Round 5 as we resumed action after the November international break. Seven different teams had been picked in this round.

On Saturday, in the lunchtime game, Leicester hosted Chelsea at the King Power Stadium – Nick Carr had picked the Londoners and a 1-0 win was enough to see him through. In the 3pm games, Arsenal faced Nottingham Forest at the Emirates – Chris Grierson, Kevin Murphy, Martin McShane, and Steve Watson had picked the Gunners and they ease through with a 3-0 win. Aston Villa played Crystal Palace at Villa Park – Gisela Mowles, James Grierson, and Tony Smith had picked Villa but they drop out after a 2-2 draw. Fulham welcomed Wolves to Craven Cottage – Jonny Trash and Joel Wilkinson had picked the Cottagers but a 4-1 sees them drop out.
On Sunday, it was bottom v top as Southampton played Liverpool at St Mary’s – Andrew Wilkinson and Ken Nelson had picked the league leaders and a 3-2 was enough to put them through. In the later game, Ipswich faced Manchester United at Portman Road – Peter Donnelly was hoping Ruben Amorim got off to a winning start but a 1-1 draw sees him exit.
We then had to wait until Monday night as Newcastle took on West Ham at St James’ Park – Steve Smith and Tony Raybould had picked the Magpies but a 2-0 win for the Hammers sees them also drop out.

Eight players drop out, leaving just seven players left standing for Round 6. Deadline for Round 6 is Friday 29th November at noon. Also, an early warning (if we get that far!) that Round 7 is a midweek set of games so anyone still standing after Round 6 will need a quick turnaround! A full update can be viewed here.
