LMS – Game 4 – Round 5

A midweek round of games meant a quick turnaround of LMS rounds. Selections are below – deadline for Round 6 will be noon on Friday 28th April. A full update can be viewed here: https://griolfc.sport.blog/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/2022_game4_round5.pdf

I was bored at the weekend so started playing with some stats for this season’s games and I came up with the table of data at the foot of this mail! Unsurprisingly, it confirmed that Liverpool are the LMS jinx team! Along with City, they have been picked in in the most rounds this season (19 times) and have resulted in 10 sets of eliminations against just 9 where they progressed! Bournemouth have some interesting stats – they have only been picked twice (joint lowest with Forest) but are the only team to have a 100% progression rate. Interestingly, Bournemouth are also the team that has caused most LMS exits this season (12 times) but have also been on the receiving end of the most LMS progressions (13)!! I’ll maintain this going forward and will find a place on the website for it somewhere as I know there will be other data geeks like me that will have an interest!!

LMS – GAME 4 – ROUND 1

Welcome to the fourth and final game of Last Man Standing this season. 93 players have entered, meaning a prize pot of £465. Eleven different teams have been picked in this opening round – four of them against each other meaning we will have at least two casualties in this opening round!

The Premier League resumes with a Saturday lunchtime game this week as Manchester City host Liverpool at the Etihad – Dave Rogers, David Mackintosh, Gisela Mowles, John Roberts and Steve Smith have picked City to win this one. In the 3pm games, league leaders Arsenal host Leeds at the Emirates – 54 players have picked the Gunners – over half of the total players! Bournemouth entertain Fulham at the Vitality stadium – Anthony Donafee has picked Bournemouth to win this one. Brighton face Brentford in the race for a European place at the Amex stadium – seven players have picked the Seagulls. Crystal Palace have their 1st game back under Woy as they welcome Leicester to Selhurst Park – Daniel McCorley has picked the Foxes. Nottingham Forest take on Wolves at the City ground in a relagation battle – Joey O’Brien has picked Forest while Tony Raybould has picked Wolves – meaning at least one of them will exit this game at the first hurdle! In the evening game, Chelsea take on Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge – eight players have picked the Londoners.
On Sunday, West Ham face their relegation rivals Southampton at the London Stadium – eleven players have picked the Hammers.
We then have to wait til Monday night for this opening round to complete as Everton welcome Tottenham to Goodison Park – Matthew Kitching and Ste Corbett have picked the Toffees while Roger Fiveways has picked Spurs, meaning someone will also exit after this game!

Good luck to everyone – well apart from the five who have picked City anyway……

LMS – Game 3 – Completed!

Round 6 completed last weekend – leaving just two players still standing: Lauren Haigh and Trevor Faulkner.

Round 7 was meant to be played after the international break – however, both players have expressed a desire to split the £455 pot between them, so this game is now complete with Lauren and Trevor both collecting £227.50 each.

Congratulations to them both!! A final update can be viewed here.

A reminder that Game 4 will commence after the international break – on the weekend of 1st April. More details on Game 4 can be viewed here.

Super 6 League Cup Replays

The Round of 16 was played over the weekend of 4th March. Three of the ties required a replay – which were played over the weekend 11th-12th March.

The results and draw for the Quarter Finals (to be played on the weekend of 1st April) can be viewed here.

The original tie between Paul Murphy and Paul Barlow resulted in a 4-4 draw. There was nothing to separate them in the replay either, which finished 9-9. This meant that it went to the golden goal rule, based on the time of the first goal scored in the Super 6 round. The golden goal was scored by Ben Chilwell in the 11th minute – Paul Murphy had predicted 8 minutes, with Paul Barlow predicting 5 minutes. Therefore, Paul Murphy progresses with the closest prediction.
