LMS – Game 3 – Round 1

Welcome to Game 3 of the season! We have 91 players in this game – including a couple of new players – so a prize pot of £455 for this game. Nine different teams have been picked in this round – two of them in the same game so we are guaranteed to lose someone in the 1st round!

This game starts with a Friday night game as there is a west London derby as Chelsea play Fulham at Stamford Bridge – Andrew Carter, Jenny Rothwell and Neil Metcalf have picked the loadsamoney club.
On Saturday, in the lunch time game, Everton will be hoping for a new manager bounce as they face the league leaders Arsenal at Goodison Park – Allan Jones, Kenny Rogers and Shaun Magee are keeping faith in the Gunners though! In the 3pm games, a Midlands derby sees Aston Villa entertain Leicester at Villa Park – Billy Mackintosh, Lee Abbott, Linda Beaumont and Owen Donnelly have picked Villa. Brentford welcome Southampton to the Gtech Community stadium – eight players have picked the Bees but John Munro fancies the Saints, meaning someone will exit after this game. Brighton face Bournemouth at the Amex – thirty-nine players have picked the Seagulls. I was hoping common sense would prevail and no-one would pick Liverpool but Steve Rogers has picked the Reds to beat Wolves at Anfield! Manchester United host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford – twenty-four players have picked United to win this one. In the tea-time game, Newcastle will be in a buoyant mood after getting to the cup final as they take on West Ham at St James’ Park – eight players have picked the Magpies.

Deadline for Round 2 will be noon on FRIDAY 10th February. A note around Round 4 – the Carabao Cup final is now confirmed as Manchester United v Newcastle United so their games are now postponed for that round. Bear that in mind when making your picks for Rounds 2 & 3 (assuming you get through!) as you won’t be able to pick either of them teams in Round 4, along with their opponents – Brentford and Brighton (unless they rearrange them for the following midweek). A full update can be viewed here.

LMS – Game 2 Round 10 & reminder for Game 3!

All four remaining entries for Game 2 are in ahead of deadline – just two different teams picked – Brentford and Brighton, which was what I was expecting after looking at the options! It does give a chance for one player to take the pot in this round should results go his way! Brentford and Brighton join the list of teams that can’t be picked should this game continue to Round 11! Good luck to the 4 of them. A full update can be viewed here.

Last Man Standing – New Game!

The 2nd game of the season is now down to the last 4 players – which ends any chance of a rollover jackpot. The £490 pot has to be won now and that means I can now start game 3! Game 2 seems to have gone on forever – starting on 22nd October, but taking a break for the World Cup.

For those that haven’t played before – you need to pick a team that you think will win their game that weekend – they win and you go through to the next round: draw or lose and you are out. Rinse and repeat for subsequent rounds until the last person is standing and takes the prize pot – you can’t pick the same team twice. Full rules can be viewed here, previous games can be viewed in the Hall of Fame. Current game can be viewed here to give you an idea how it works. Feel free to share with anyone you think might be interested – more entries = a bigger prize pot!

Entry remains £5 and you must send me an email (martin.grierson@gmail.com) by 7pm on Friday 3rd February with your selection for Round 1. First four sets of fixtures below, to let you plan ahead (you only need to let me know Round 1 to start with though!). Make a note that Round 4 will include 2 postponed games due to the Carabao Cup final. Payment details have not changed – payments to Martin Grierson @ Sort Code:126050 Account Number:03697698 or alternatively, you can pay by Paypal to martin.grierson@gmail.com (use friends and family option to avoid fee).

Super 6 Cup updates

The 2nd Round of the knockout cup took place over the weekend of the 14th January. 5 ties required a replay, which were played over the weekend of the 21st January. Three of the replays were settled outright – however, 2 of them were drawn. As per the rules – in the event of a drawn replay, the tie will be determined by the number of correct results, followed by the nearest guess to the Golden Goal.

Richard Gibbons and Michael Thomas both drew their replay 9 all, both getting one score correct and two outcomes correct. David Weston and Nikki Grice drew their replay 7 all and also had identical records Therefore we had a golden goal situation in both of these replays! Marcus Rashford scored the golden goal this week in the 17th minute: Richard predicted the 9th minute with Michael going with the 8th so Richard goes through. David predicted the 5th minute with Nikki predicting the 3rd so David progresses. Commiserations to Michael and Nikkie there! The 3rd Round will be played on the weekend of 4th February, with any replays the week later. Updated draw can be viewed here

The penultimate round of games took place in the League Cup competition. Updated tables, results and remaining fixtures can be viewed here. Last round of games is the weekend of 4th February.

GROUP A
Christopher Grierson’s win over Ste Matthews confirms him as group winner. Shaun Magee’s loss means that Matthew Saveall and Jordan Laite still have a chance – Shaun plays Matthew in the last game – winner takes all! Jordan plays Christopher needing to win and see a draw between the other 2.

GROUP B
Lauren Haigh’s win over Chris Brown confirms her as group winner. Albert Au could only draw against Nikki Grice but Stuart Davies’ defeat to David Weston sees Albert confirmed as 2nd.

GROUP C
Lisa Ormesher’s win over Peter Donnelly keeps her in pole position. Michael Grierson’s win over Tony Raybould keeps him in 2nd, while Martin Grierson’s win over David Hayhoe keeps him in with a chance. Michael plays David in the last game. Martin plays Lisa knowing a win will see him qualify.

GROUP D
Ross Milton had already qualified as he beat John Roberts. John never put an entry in this week which has now made his task of catching Richard Gibbons almost impossible. John needs to beat Debra Haigh in his last game and hope that Paul Grice beats Richard and also turn around a 16 point goal difference with these results!

GROUP E
Steve Smith missed an opportunity to draw level with Paul Murphy at the top of the table after his defeat to Lee Abbott. Michael Thomas’ defeat to Chris Newman also means that Paul has qualified without playing! Michael and Steve play each other in the last game – Michael has to win to take 2nd place away from Steve.

GROUP F
A very close group – only certainty is that Gary Nelson and Cameron Green can’t qualify! Cameron will be regretting not keying an entry this week as the defeat to Andrew Carter leaves Andrew on top, on goal difference. 2nd placed Melvin Pool plays Andrew in the last game, Paul Barlow plays Cameron – a win for Paul will see him qualify.

GROUP G
Trevor Faulkner’s defeat to Neil Metcalf means that there is nothing left to play for in this group other than who finishes top. Lynsey Harrison and Peter Carroll both sit on 15 points – with Lynsey having the better goal difference. Peter plays Neil while Lynsey plays Trevor in the final games.

GROUP H
David Nicholls had already qualified but is confirmed as group winner without even playing! Graham Healey and Peter Wooldridge face each other in the final game – Peter has a 2 point advantage so Graham has to win to swap places with Peter.

Fantasy League Cup – Round 13

The penultimate set of games took place in the Fantasy League Cup competition last weekend. The updated results and tables, along with the remaining fixtures, can be viewed here. A quick update on each of the table is below:

Group A
This group was between Shane Mageean, Melvin Pool and Jack Lockley to qualify – they were all on 21 points. Shane and Jack both won their games meaning they now sit 3 points clear of Melvin – all with 1 game to play. Crucially, Shane and Jack play each other in their last game – winner qualifies, a draw sees them both qualify. Melvin plays Philip Haigh. With the goal difference, Melvin needs to beat Philip and hope for a win for Shane.

Group B
Ant Donafee had already qualified. His win over Gregory Roberts sees him finish as group winner. Emma Carr’s win over Steve Smith saw her wrap up this group with a game to spare as she has confirmed 2nd place.

Group C
Peter Donnelly has already qualified but his loss to Jono Matthews means that James Ledger (after his win over Michael Agnew) can still mathematically catch him. Ewan Whites defeat to Lewis Donnelly means that James has also qualified. Peter and James play each other in the last game – James has to win by 33 points to  take top spot.

Group D
Martyn Dring and Lucas Wynne-James were both in very strong positions in this group – Michael Grierson needed a couple of miraculous results to nick a qualification place but his defeat to Ian O’Brien means Lucas (who won anyway) and Martyn both qualify. Martyn needs to  Ian and hope that Lucas loses to Paul Sparkes to take top spot.

Group E
Liam Donafee had already qualified. Ben Donafee is the only manager who could challenge Gisela Mowles for the other space – Gisela lost to Dianne Sparked but Ben lost the Donafee derby meaning Liam finishes as group winner and Gisela takes 2nd place.

Group F
Greg Tarka and Peter Wooldridge had already qualified. Greg’s defeat to Richie Gibbons means that Peter can finish as group winner if he beats Gerry Doherty in his last game.

Group G
Jed Donafee’s win over Paul Murphy confirms him as group winner. Daniel Chaderton’s win over Chris Mowles, combined with Gary Sharp’s defeat to David Hegarty puts him in pole position for 2nd place. Daniel has to beat Paul in his last game to take 2nd. David plays Jed and will be hoping Daniel slips up to take advantage. Gary can still nick 2nd place but needs to beat Chris and hope for defeats for Daniel and David.

Group H
This group was tight anyway but the latest results leaves Chris Newman, Emma Bisset and Graeme Tinker all level on 15 points!! Dan Worthington is a point behind on 14, with David Owen on 13 points. Chris and Emma face each other in the last game so a win should see one of them go through and the other one likely to go out. Graeme plays Ste Matthews with David and Dan playing each other. The only thing definite in this group is that Ste can’t qualify – all the other 5 can if results go their way!

LMS – Game 2 – Round 9

All entries in on time. Four different teams picked – potential for 2 players to win the pot in this round! Good luck to all 8 players. Selections are below, a full update can be viewed here.

Round 9
21-Jan to 23-Jan
1 Andy Burns Manchester City
2 Becci Morton West Ham
3 Cameron Green Brighton
4 Dave Nicholls Liverpool
5 Paul Barlow Manchester City
6 Shaun Magee Brighton
7 Ste Milton Manchester City
8 Stuart Davies Brighton

Fantasy Footy League Cup

The midweek games meant you had to wait until today for an update on the 12th Round of games played in this competition. Two rounds left – some managers only have one game to play though. Updated tables, results and remaining fixtures can be viewed here.

Group A
It looks like its between Shane Mageean, Melvin Pool and Jack Lockley to qualify as they are all on 21 points. Melvin has played a game more than the other two but they play each other in the last round of games. Philip Haigh sits 6 points behind and could draw level on points if he wins his last two games – although with the goal difference it looks like he could only really overhaul Jack, who he plays next!

Group B
Ant Donafee’s win over Steve Smith confirms his qualification. Emma Carr currently sits in 2nd, with 2 games to play. Steve Smith, Christopher Grierson and Reece Turner sit 3 points behind Emma, although Christopher only has one game left to play and is on a minus goal difference, so it looks like its between Emma, Steve and Reece for the other qualification spot.Emma plays Steve next and then Steve faces Reece in his last game so it’s very much in Steve’s hands!

Group C
Peter Donnelly has qualified and his superior goal difference suggests he will finish as group winner. James Ledger is 2nd on 19 points, with Ewan White on 18 and Lewis Donnelly on 15. James, Ewan and Lewis each have two games to play – Ewan plays Lewis in the next round. A special mention for Jono Matthews who finally won a game!

Group D
Martyn Dring and Lucas Wynne-James both sit on 21 points. Michael Grierson is on 15 points and is the only manager who can catch either Martyn or Lucas but he needs to overturn a goal difference of at least 100 so it does look like this group is effectively done!

Group E
Liam Donafee had already qualified. He still sits 6 points clear of 2nd placed Gisela Mowles, with 2 games to play. Ben Donafee is the only manager who can challenge Gisela – he is 2 points behind, with just 1 game to play. Ben has to win the Donafee derby in the next round of games and hope Gisela loses the last two!

Group F
This group is done! Greg Tarka is top on 27 points, with Peter Wooldridge 2nd on 24 points. Neither of them can be caught – only thing now is who finishes top. Greg has pole position put Peter can level on points with the right results and has a better goal difference.

Group G
No games were played in this round of games. Each manager has 2 games left to play. Jed Donafee is top on 18 points – Gary Sharp and Daniel Chaderton are level on 13 points with David Hegarty on 12 points. Chris Mowles is on 9 points and if he wins his last two games and other results go his way, he could even snatch the 2nd spot.

Group H
Emma Bissett and Graeme Tinker both sit on 15 points. Chris Newman is just 3 points behind on 12, with Dan Worthington on 11. Quite a few games against each other in the final 2 rounds of games so lots of different permutations possible here!

Super 6 Cup Competitions

Both Super 6 competitions resumed at the weekend.

It was the 2nd Round of the Knockout Cup – results and draw for Round 3 can be viewed here. 5 of the ties require a replay – they all scored 11, except Dave Weston and Nikki Grice who scored 13. The replays will be this weekend (21st January) – in the event of a drawn replay then the tie will be determined by the number of correct results, followed by the nearest guess to the Golden Goal. The 3rd Round ties will be played on the weekend of 4th February.

The League Cup resumed with the 8th round of games played. Results and updated tables can be viewed here. Round 9 of games will be played this coming weekend (21st January) with the final round on the weekend of 4th February.
