Fantasy Footy Cup Comps

A quick update. Three rounds of games have been played already and the league is starting to take shape. I am sure you are all keeping an eye on it but the link to the league table is here.

All payments received (well, bar one but I know I’ll get it from him eventually!) so it is now confirmed as 54 participants in the league, so that means £540 prize monies.

The prize pot will be split as below:
League
1st – £170
2nd – £80
3rd – £50
4th – £25
5th – £15

Knockout & League Cups
Winner – £75
Runner-up – £25

I will be looking to start the cups soon. I will be seeding the draws, based on the league placings after the games played in the round of games over 3rd/4th September – giving you another 3 rounds of games to make a move up that table! I am on holiday from 11th September for 10 days so to make things easier for me, I will kick off the cup comps with the games from the weekend of 17th September. I am avoiding weeks where there is planned double games, eg around Christmas and New Year and we also have the enforced break for the World Cup. If you didn’t play last season – on a given cup weekend, your score will be put head to head against your opponent to create a result. I will publish the draws week commencing 5th September.

Schedule is below.

Knockout competition:
This is administered by the Premier League themselves. Last season it didn’t kick off until around week 35 of the season and ran up until the final on the final weekend of the season – so watch this space in early 2023 when more information is made available.

League Cup competition:
This will be in the style of the Champions League – ie a set of groups with the top two from each group progressing to a knockout tournament. There will be 6 groups of 7 teams and 2 groups of 6 teams, playing each other twice. The top two in each group will progress to the last 16 and a knockout tournament of single matches.
The group games will be played on:
Round 1 – 17th September

Round 2 – 1st October
Round 3 – 8th October
Round 4* – 22nd October
Round 5 – 29th October
Round 6 – 5th November
Round 7 – 12th November
Round 8- 14th January
Round 9 – 21st January
Round 10* – 4th February
Round 11 – 11th February
Round 12 – 18th February
* no games for the groups with only 6 teams

Knockout games:
Round of 16 – 4th March (replay 11th March)
Quarter Finals – 1st April (replay 8th April)
Semi Finals – 29th April (replay 6th May)
Final – 20th May (replay 28th May)

In the event of a draw, a replay will be played the following week. In the event of a drawn replay then the tie will be determined by the team whose players scorred the most number of goals.

LMS – Game 1 – Round 2

As mentioned in my email update last week, I have been using a mailing service from Mailchimp. It seems I have violated their T&C’s – no direct explanation but I think they are seeing my football comps as “Gambling services or products” – and they have suspended my service! I’ve looked at similar companies but they seem to have similar T&C’s so I am just reverting back to normal email. Some people – especially those on BT Internet – were getting my mails treated as Spam/Junk. I had no bounce backs last week so hoping all is ok! As well as these emails, I will be posting updates to this blog – griolfc.sport.blog – so I would recommend to bookmark this site and also use the Subscribe function on the blog – you will get an email when any new posts have been made.

Also, quick clarity on deadline times. Deadline is always noon on a Friday, unless it’s specified differently in the previous update – typically for opening rounds or rounds run during midweek games, etc. I use 12 as I work from home on a Friday, so I have time on my lunch hour to sort it, get it sent and then forget about it over the weekend! I always try to give people a nudge on a Friday morning if I haven’t had a pick sent in to try and avoid landing someone with a default pick – by email and/or text. Happy to make a note of people’s numbers if you want to drop one across to me!

Round 2 update is attached – good luck!

Fantasy Football League Launch

Deadline for teams to be entered into the Premier League Fantasy Football competition was 18:30 on Friday evening, ahead of the first game of the season between Crystal Palace and Arsenal. I have now closed the league to any new entries.

There are currently 55 teams in the league. However, I need to determine with some of those who were in last season and not yet paid whether they actually intend to be in this season or not. I will send emails to those in that position separately. If you havent paid yet then please send your £10 across either by bank transfer or Paypal.
Bank details:
Sort code: 12-60-50
Account Number: 03697698
Account Name: Martin Grierson
Paypal: martin.grierson@gmail.com (use Family/Friends option to avoid fees!).

As the league runs through the Premier League website, I won’t be sending emails each week. Make sure you keep on top of the fixtures – there is a midweek round of games at the end of the month so look out for that being a double points week!
I will confirm prize monies and look at the cup draws once the numbers are finalised.
Good luck everyone!

LMS – Game 1 – Round 1 Results

The first LMS game of the season kicked off this weekend. I had missed an entry on the first update (Paul Allman) so we now have 107 entries for this game, meaning a prize pot of £535. All ten fixtures featured with twelve different teams picked in this opening round.

View PDF update

Friday night saw the opening game at Selhurst Park between Crystal Palace and Arsenal – Gareth Hamilton, Jack Lockley and Sandra Emmett had picked the Gooners and go through with a 2-0 win.
Saturday lunchtime game saw newly promoted Fulham taking on the Liverpool, at Craven Cottage – 17 players had picked the Reds to make a winning start but a 2-2 draw sees them become the first players to exit this game. In the 3pm games, Bournemouth welcomed Aston Villa to the Vitality Stadium on their return to the top flight – Jenny Rothwell had picked Bournemouth, while Kyle McLellan, Peter Donnelly Snr and Lee Abbott had picked Villa – a 2-0 win for Bournemouth sees Jenny through and an exit for Kyle, Peter and Lee. Leeds took on Wolves at Elland Road – Gary Donely had picked the Yorkshire men with Dave Weston and Greg Roberts both fancying Wolves – it’s Gary who goes through after a 2-1 win for Leeds. Newcastle faced Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park – 20 players tipped the Geordies to kick off with a win and they go through after a 2-0 win. Tottenham played Southampton at the Tottenham Stadium – 43 players made Spurs the favourites in this round – a convincing 4-1 win saw them safely through. In the Saturday evening game, Everton faced Chelsea at Goodison Park – Andy Burns had tipped Chelsea to win here and goes through after a 1-0 win.
Onto Sunday, Leicester entertained Brentford at the King Power Stadium – Neil Metcalf, Elliot Mitchell, Nick Breakspear and Lisa Mensah had picked the Foxes to win but a 2-2 draw sees them go out. Manchester United started the Ten Haag era with a vist to Old Trafford from Brighton – 9 players had picked United here but a 2-1 win for the Seagulls takes them out as well. The final game of the opening weekend saw West Ham host the champions, Manchester City, at the London Stadium – Ste Matthews and Vikki Darby had picked City and both go through after a 2-0 win.

So, 35 players exit at the first hurdle, leaving 72 players still standing for Round 2. Deadline for Round 2 is NOON on Friday 12th August.

SUPER 6 – 2022/23 SEASON

Sky have finally launched details of their Super 6 competition for this coming season.

As per last season, I will be running a mini-league again and will be running two cup competitions alongside the league. The League Cup will be in the style of the Champions League – with a group stage followed by a knockout tournament of the best 16 teams. The Knockout Cup will be a standard knockout competition.

Entry for the league and cups is £10. Last season we had 38 entries, so £380 prize money was shared across all three competitions. If anyone needs my bank details for payments then drop me an email – martin.grierson@gmail.com – or make a Paypal payment to my email address (use Family/Friends option to avoid fees!).

If you were in last season’s competition, then you are automatically entered for this season’s competition – if you were in last season’s league and don’t want to participate this season could you please remove yourself from the league (or drop me a mail to let me know)?

If you weren’t in last season’s competition then please use this link and you’ll be added automatically after you’ve entered the game. Alternatively, if you are already logged into the Super 6 site/app, then the League Code is NM264E. The league name is “To be confirmed…..” – if anyone has any suggestions for a name then happy to listen!!

Feel free to share with any family/friends/colleagues, etc. Any questions/comments please drop me a mail.
