LMS – Game 5 – Round 10

31st August – 1st September

25 players are still standing for Round 10. Six different teams have been picked in this round – two of them in the same game so we are gauranteed to lose at least one player. This is the last round before an international break —no one could pick Manchester City, Newcastle or Tottenham.

On Saturday, in the 3pm games, Brentford face Southampton at the Gtech Community stadium – 7 players have picked the Bees.Ipswich entertain Fulham at Portman Road – Tony Smith is the first player to take a risk on one of the promoted teams, whilst Josh Wignall and Sandra Emmett have picked the Cottagers – at least one of these will be dropping out! Leicester entertain Aston Villa at the Walkers stadium – Steve Smith has picked Villa. Nottingham Forest take on Wolves at the City Ground – Dave Phillips, Joey O’Brien and Lisa Mensah have picked Forest.
On Sunday, Chelsea have a London derby as Crystal Palace visit Stamford Bridge – 11 players have picked Chelsea. Steve Smith and Tony Smith are the only players to have a chance of winning the pot in this round.

Round 11 is after the international break. Deadline for Round 4 will be Friday 13th September at 12pm. Looking slightly ahead, I am away on holiday from 16th September – I will be on a cruise so will only have a phone signal at limited times (and I am too tight to pay for the ship’s wi-fi!!) so Rounds 12 & 13 will have earlier than usual deadlines – Thursdays at 12pm and I won’t have time to nudge people for their picks like I normally try and do. You have been warned!!. A full update can be viewed here.

16th-19th August

This new game of LMS kicked off with 120 players (one more entry arrived just after I sent the first update so have included it), meaning a prize pot of £600. Seven different teams were picked in this opening round of the season.

The new season kicked off on Friday night as Manchester United welcomed Fulham to Old Trafford – 16 players had a nervy waiting but were finally rewarded with an 87th minute winner for United.
On Saturday, in the lunchtime game, newly promoted Ipswich started their season with a vist from Liverpool to Portman Road – 8 players were hoping that Arne Slot got off to a winning start and were rewarded with a 2-0 win. In the 3pm games, Arsenal faced Wolves at the Emirates – 41 players had picked the Gunners and they also progressed with a 2-0 win. Newcastle took on newly promoted Southampton at St James’ Park – 50 players were hoping there was no upset here and, despite a sending off, the Magpies got a 1-0 win.
On Sunday, Brentford had a London derby as they played Crystal Palace at the Gtech community stadium – Dave Weston had picked the Bees and he goes through after a 2-1 win. The later game saw Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge – Lynn Storer had gone for the champions and she goes through after a 2-0 win
The final game of the weekend took place on Monday night as Leicester hosted Tottenham – Sandra Emmett and Owen Donnelly were hoping that Spurs would ruin Leicester’s return to the top flight but a 1-1 draw saw them become the first casualties of this new game.

118 players are still standing for Round 2. Deadline for Round 2 is Friday 23rd August at 12pm.  A full update can be viewed here.

16th-19th August

30 players had opted to continue this game in their quest for a reduced pot of £932. As the new season kicked off, the remaining players couldn’t pick any Manchester City players. Four different teams were picked in this round – with just one player having a chance of winning the pot in this round.

The new season kicked off on Friday evening as Manchester United welcomed Fulham to Old Trafford – a tough set of fixtures saw twenty-two players putting their faith in last season’s FA Cup winners and they were probably all cursing their pick until the 87th minute when a late winner saw them progress with a 1-0 win.
On Saturday, in the lunchtime kick off, Liverpool made a trip to Portman Road to take on newly-promoted Ipswich – Andrew Wilkinson, Dave Brown, Gemma Jackson and Neil Metcalf were hoping that the Arne Slot era started with a win and a 2-0 win saw them through. In the 3pm games, Everton faced Brighton as they started their last season at Goodison Park – Kenny Rogers had picked the Toffees but a 3-0 defeat sees him drop out. Newcastle also took on a newly promoted team as Southampton headed upto St James’ Park – Dan Milton, Dave Nicholls and Tony Smith had picked the Magpies and a 1-0 win was enough to see them through.

Deadline for Round 9 is Friday 23rd August at 12pm.  A full update can be viewed here.

LMS – Game 1 – Round 1

Web Site LMS Rules LMS Hall of Fame
16th-19th August

Another new season and another load of false hope, for most of us! It also means a new game of Last Man Standing! 119 players have opted in for this first game of the season – meaning a prize pot of £595. This is the highest number of entries we have ever had – surpassing the opening game of last season by two! Seven different teams have been picked in this opening round of the season.

The new season kicks off on Friday night as Manchester United welcome Fulham to Old Trafford – 16 players have picked the FA Cup winners.
On Saturday, in the lunchtime game, newly promoted Ipswich start their season with a vist from Liverpool to Portman Road – 8 players are hoping that Arne Slot gets off to a winning start. In the 3pm games, Arsenal face Wolves at the Emirates – 41 players have picked the Gunners. Newcastle take on newly promoted Southampton at St James’ Park – 50 players are hoping there is no upset here in this opening round.
On Sunday, Brentford have a London derby as they play Crystal Palace at the Gtech community stadium – Dave Weston has picked the Bees. The later game sees Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge – Lynn Storer has gone for the champions.
The final game of the weekend takes place on Monday night as Leicester host Tottenham – Sandra Emmett and Owen Donnelly are hoping that Spurs will ruin Leicester’s return to the top flight.

Deadline for Round 2 will be Friday 23rd August at 12pm.  A full update can be viewed here.

16th-19th August

33 players were still standing at the end of the 2023/24 season. The rules stated that the pot should be shared by anyone still standing. An option was put to the remaining 33 players whether they wanted to take their share of the pot or carry this game on into the new season. 3 players cashed out, leaving 30 players to continue in their quest for a reduced pot of £932. As the new season kicks off, the remaining players couldn’t pick any Manchester City players. They also couldn’t pick any of the relegated teams but did have the options of Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton to pick from as replacements. Four different teams were picked in this round – with just one player having a chance of winning the pot in this round.

The new season kicks off on Friday evening as Manchester United welcome Fulham to Old Trafford – a tough set of fixtures (seeing as we have alread played seven rounds) sees twenty-two players putting their faith in last season’s FA Cup winners.
On Saturday, in the lunchtime kick off, Liverpool make a trip to Portman Road to take on newly-promoted Ipswich – Andrew Wilkinson, Dave Brown, Gemma Jackson and Neil Metcalf are hoping that the Arne Slot era starts with a win. In the 3pm games, Everton face Brighton as they start their last season at Goodison Park – Kenny Rogers has picked the Toffees. Newcastle also take on a newly promoted team as Southampton head upto St James’ Park – Dan Milton, Dave Nicholls and Tony Smith have picked the Magpies.

Deadline for Round 9 will be Friday 23rd August at 12pm.  A full update can be viewed here.

LMS – Game 5 – Round 8

Just over 3 weeks to go to the start of the season and (conscious that some people may be heading away on holiday over the next few weeks) it’s time to bring this back into view!

You may recall from last season that Game 4 ended with no winner and we ended up with a rollover jackpot for Game 5. We ran out of games by the end of the season after 7 rounds and we still had 33 players still standing. The rules stated that the prize fund should be shared in such an outcome but I let the 33 players decide to either take their share of the winnings or let the game continue into this current season. 3 players took their opportunity of getting some winnings leaving 33 players to contest the remaining prize pot of £932.

The three relegated teams have been replaced with the three promoted teams and the players cannot pick any of the teams that they have already picked in the previous 7 rounds. Nobody can pick Manchester City. A full reminder of who is still standing and who has picked who can be viewed here.

Deadline for entries will be 6pm on Friday 16th August.
