LMS – Game 5 – Round 6 Results

Web Site LMS Rules LMS Hall of Fame
11th-13th May

34 players are still standing for Round 6. Six different teams had been picked in this round – two of them in the same game, so we were guaranteed to lose at least one player.

On Saturday, in the lunchtime game, Fulham entertained Manchester City at Craven Cottage – Andy Burns was expecting a City win and goes through after a 4-0 win. In the 3pm games, Everton hosted Sheffield United at Goodison Park – 16 players were hoping the Blues would bow out with a final home win of the season and a 1-0 win was enough to see them through. Tottenham welcomed Burnley to the Tottenham stadium – 11 players had picked Spurs to help Burnley on their way back to the Championship, despite an early scare, they go through after a 2-1 win. West Ham faced Luton at the London stadium – Dave Brown, Dave Phillips and Paul Hallett were hoping that David Moyes had a happy farewell to his home crowd but Craig Milton was hoping that the Hatters gave themselves something to play for in their final game next weekend but it was Craig who dropped out after a 3-1 win for the Hammers. In the evening game, Nottingham Forest played Chelsea at the City Ground – Chris Mowles and Kenny Rogers had picked the Londoners and go through after a 3-2 win.

Just the one player dropped out, leaving 33 players still standing for the final round. The rules state that the prize pot will be equally shared but I don’t think it was ever anticipated how many people would still be standing! I am going to contact the 33 players still standing to see if they want to take a share (should they make it through the final round) or if they would like this game to continue into next season for a more meaningful prize (will probably do that Tuesday when I have more time on my hands). Deadline for the final Round of the season is back to the usual 12pm on FRIDAY 17th May. A full update can be viewed here.

3rd-6th May

37 players were still standing for Round 5. Nine different teams have been picked in this round – only the Brentford v Fulham game didn’t feature.

We kicked off with a Friday night game this week as Luton entertained Everton at Kenilworth Road – Neil Taggart was hoping for a 4th consecutive win for the Blues but a 1-1 draw sees him drop out.
On Saturday afternoon, in the lunchtime game, Arsenal took on Bournemouth at the Emirates – 21 players had picked the Gunners and they progress with a 3-0 win. In the 3pm games, Burnley took on Newcastle at Turfmoor – Andrew Wilkinson and Olly Woodward had picked the Magpies and they go through after a 4-1 win. Sheffield United faced Nottingham Forest at Bramhall Lane – Dan Milton, Jack Horsler and Pauline Jackson had picked Forest to win and they also go through, after a 3-1 win. In the evening game, Manchester City played Wolves at the Etihad – Josh Wignall had picked City and he eases through with a 5-1 win.
On Sunday, Brighton welcomed Aston Villa to the Amex – Gary Storer was hoping Villa could continue their push for a top 4 finish but a 1-0 defeat sees him drop out. No entry was received from Peter Donnelly so he got Villa as his default selection and also exits. A London derby saw Chelsea host West Ham at Stamford Bridge – Joey O’Brien, Tony Raybould and Tony Smith had gone for the Blues and a 5-0 win puts them through. In the later game, Liverpool played Tottenham at Anfield – Jackie Milton, Kenny Rogers and Steve Smith had picked the Reds and a 4-2 win sees them through.
Finally, on Monday night, Crystal Palace welcomed Manchester United to Selhurst Park – Ewan White had picked the Eagles here and goes through with a comfortable 4-0 win.

3 players drop out, leaving 34 players still standing for Round 6. A few people have asked what happens if this game does not complete – there is a rule that states “Should two or more participants remain standing after the final league games of the season then the prize pot will be equally shared among them.

SUPER 6 – KNOCKOUT CUP FINAL

Right, I had a note in my calendar for the final this weekend. Went to update the score and noticed I had missed updating after the semi-finals! The semi-finals of the Knockout Cup competition took place over the weekend of 6 April. Both ties were settled at the first attempt:
Linda Maiden – 4
Paul Murphy – 9

Matthew Kitching – 4
Stephen Corbett – 2

That meant the final, on weekend of 4th May was to be contested between Paul Murphy and Matthew Kitching. Matthew forecast that Newcastle, Manchester City and Chelsea would win – scoring 6 points. Paul, however, also predicted them 3 results as well as a draw in the Brentford/Fulham game and a win for Liverpool, scoring 10 points and winning the final.

Congratulations and £75 to Paul – commisserations and £25 to Matthew. Prizes to be paid out at the end of the season.

SUPER 6 – LEAGUE CUP FINAL REPLAY

The final of the League Cup competition took place over the weekend of 27/28 April.

It was contested between Paul Maiden and Shaun McGee and finished 8-8.

The replay took place over the weekend 4/5 May. Both Paul and Shaun had predicted wins for Manchester City and Chelsea. Paul had also predicted a win for Liverpool, giving him 6 points. However, Shaun also forecast wins for Newcastle and Brighton giving him 8 points and the win. Conrgratulations and £75 to Shaun – commisserations and £25 to Paul. Prizes to be paid out at the end of the season.

37 players are still standing for Round 5. Somewhat surprisingly (well, to me anyway!), nine different teams have been picked in this round – only the Brentford v Fulham game does not feature.

We kick off with a Friday night game this week as Luton entertain Everton at Kenilworth Road – Neil Taggart is hoping for a 4th consecutive win for the Blues.
On Saturday afternoon, in the lunchtime game, Arsenal take on Bournemouth at the Emirates – 20 players have picked the Gunners. No entry was received from Peter Donnelly so he gets Villa as his default selection. Burnley take on Newcastle at Turfmoor – Andrew Wilkinson and Olly Woodward have picked the Magpies. Sheffield United face Nottingham Forest at Bramhall Lane – Dan Milton, Jack Horsler and Pauline Jackson have picked Forest to put the final nail in the Blades’ coffin. In the evening game, Manchester City play Wolves at the Etihad – Josh Wignall has picked City.
On Sunday, a London derby sees Chelsea host West Ham at Stamford Bridge – Joey O’Brien, Tony Raybould and Tony Smith have gone for the Blues. In the later game, Liverpool play Tottenham at Anfield – Jackie Milton, Kenny Rogers and Steve Smith have picked the Reds.
Finally, on Monday night, Crystal Palace welcome Manchester United to Selhurst Park – Ewan White has picked the Eagles here.

Ewan White, Neil Taggart and Josh Wignall each have a chance to win the pot outright – although that would take one hell of a lot of exceptional results!!

FANTASY FOOTY – LEAGUE CUP FINAL

The final took place over Gameweek 35, which kicked off on 27th April. However, there was a rearranged game between Chelsea and Spurs that was played on Thursday night so we had to wait for that game to be played for the final to conclude.

Owen Donnelly is the current league leader, while David Grice sits in 9th place, so it was always going to be a close game. It was made even closer as both teams were identical, apart from the keeper and two defenders! That made the difference in Owen’s favour as his 3 players earned 2 points each, while David’s earned just a point each – meaning the tie scored 73-70 in Owen’s favour. David has also used a couple of extra transfers, meaning he had 8 points docked, so the net result was 73-62 to Owen.

Congratulations (and £75!!) to Owen!! Comisserations (and £25) to David!
Prizes to be paid out at the end of the season.

SUPER 6 – LEAGUE CUP FINAL

The final of the League Cup competition took place over the weekend of 27/28 April.

It was contested between Paul Maiden and Shaun McGee. The final finished 8-8 – both players forecast Everton to beat Brentford 2-1, Newcastle to beat Sheffield United 3-1 and Arsenal to beat Spurs 2-1 – they also forecast that Manchester City would beat Nottingham Forest. This meant they earned 8 points each.

They will now replay next weekend (4/5 May). In the event of the relay being drawn then the golden goal rule will come into play.

42 players were still standing for Round 4. Six different teams were picked in this round – one of them by default.

On Saturday afternoon, the bottom three teams all featured in the selections, in the 3pm games. Manchester United entertained Burnley at Old Trafford – Jason Harrison, Kevin Murphy, Owen Donnelly and Steve Watson had picked United but a late Burnley equaliser means they drop out after a 1-1 draw. Newcastle took on Sheffield United at St James’ Park – thirty players had picked the Magpies. After an early scare of going a goal down, they eased through with a 5-1 win. Wolves hosted Luton at Molineux – Andrew Wilkinson, Olly Woodward and Tony Smith had picked Wolves in this one and they go through with a 2-1 win. In the Saturday night game, Aston Villa played Chelsea at Villa Park – Pat Boddy had picked Villa but a Chelsea comeback saw him drop out after a 2-2 draw.
On Sunday, the early game saw the north London derby as Spurs faced Arsenal at the Tottenham stadium – no pick was received from Neil Taggart so he got the Gunners by default and goes through after a 3-2 win. In the later game, Nottingham Forest welcomed Manchester City to the City Ground – Dan Milton, Dave Nicholls and Neil Metcalf were expecting a City win and they were rewarded with a 2-0 win.

5 players drop out at this stage – leaving 37 players still standing for Round 5. Deadline for Round 5 is 12pm on FRIDAY 3rd May.  A full update can be viewed here.

42 players are still standing for Round 4. Six different teams have been picked in this round – one of them by default.

Manchester United entertain Burnley at Old Trafford – Jason Harrison, Kevin Murphy, Owen Donnelly and Steve Watson have picked United. Wolves host Luton at Molineux – Andrew Wilkinson, Olly Woodward and Tony Smith have picked Wolves in this one. In the Saturday night game, Aston Villa play Chelsea at Villa Park – Pat Boddy has picked Villa.
On Sunday, the early game sees the north London derby as Spurs will be doing their best to stop Arsenal at the Tottenham stadium – no pick was received from Neil Taggart so he gets the Gunners by default. In the later game, Nottingham Forest welcome Manchester City to the City Ground – Dan Milton, Dave Nicholls and Neil Metcalf are expecting a City win.

Any sort of result for Sheffield United could be catastrophic with over 2/3 of players picking Newcastle!! Pat Boddy is the only player to have a chance of winning the pot outright. Deadline for Round 5 will be 12pm on FRIDAY 3rd May.  A full update can be viewed here.
