SUPER 6 CUP LEAGUE CUP

Apologies, I was only reminded yesterday that these ties were scheduled for last weekend!!

The semi-finals were played over the weekend of 2nd-4th April (Round 46).

The first semi-final was between Paul Maiden and Dave Nicholls – Paul won this tie, 9-6. They both correctly forecast that Spurs and Liverpool would win. It was the Villa v Wolves game that was the difference – Paul correctly forecast a 2-0 win for Villa. Dave will be cursing that Wolves never got a consolation goal as he had 2-1.

The other semi-final was contested between Peter Wooldridge and Shaun Mcgee. Peter scored 9 points – forecasting Liverpool and Spurs to win and also getting the Villa results spot on. However, Shaun correctly predicted that Liverpool would beat Brighton 2-1, as well as predicting wins for Spurs and Villa and draws in the games between Brentford and United/City and Arsenal – earning him 13 points in total.

The final will be played on the weekend of 27th April.

FANTASY FOOTY CUP UPDATES

The semi-finals were played over the weekend of 2nd-4th April (gameweek 30).

The first semi-final was between David Grice and Andy Burns – David scored 70 points whilst Andy scored 62 points. However, David made a couple of substitutions and as a result had 8 points deducted, so the tie ended up a draw – 62-62. The replay is this coming weekend (6-7 April).

The other semi-final was contested between Alfie Lockley and Owen Donnelly. Owen scored 67 points – despite Alfie playing his bench boost, he scored 57 points, meaning Owen takes his place in the final, awaiting the winner of the replay from the other tie.

The final will be played on the weekend of 27th April.

A reminder that the knockout cup starts in gameweek 33 (which is next week) – ties will be determined by league placings after gameweek 32. This is run by the Premier League website – check here for more details.

LMS – One final game!

Newcastle’s draw on Tuesday night means that we have a guaranteed winner in Game 4.

There are 8 rounds of games (starting this weekend) left so should be enough to hopefully squeeze one last game in. In the event that we get to the end of the season and the game is not complete, there is a rule that the pot is shared by whoever is left standing.

Upto you, if you fancy one last go then get entries to me before deadline. With the limited timescales I will extend the deadline to 10am on Saturday morning (6th April). Usual £5 to enter.

For reference, game 1 went 11 rounds, game 2 was 7 rounds and game 3 was 9 rounds. Current game is due to go into round 5 with 4 (hopefully 5 after tonight!) players still standing.

2nd-4th April

We were down to just 10 players after only 3 rounds! Four different teams were picked in this midweek round.

On Tuesday night, Newcastle hosted Everton at St James’ Park – Kevin Murphy, Paul Davies, Paul Giles, Pauline Jackson and Tony Ainsworth were hoping that Newcastle could ensure Everton’s winless streak continued – which it did, but a 1-1 draw sees them drop out.
On Wednesday night, Arsenal were relishing the visit of Luton Town to the Emirates – Olly Woodward picked the Gunners and he progresses with a 2-0 win. Manchester City took on Aston Villa at the Etihad – Gary Nelson, Gerry Doherty and Tony Raybould went for a City win and they also go through after a 4-1 win.
Finally, on Thursday night, Liverpool welcomed Sheffield United to Anfield – David Hayhoe was hoping for a win for the league leaders and he goes through after a 3-1 win.

5 players still standing for Round 5, which means this game now will have a winner. Deadline for Round 5 is 12pm on FRIDAY 5th April. Arsenal and Liverpool can be no longer picked in this game. Hopefully you saw my earlier update to squeeze one final game in – deadline for the new game is 10am on Saturday. A full update can be viewed here.

9th-11th March

93 players were still standing for Round 2. Seven different teams had been picked in this round.

On Saturday, in the lunch time game, Manchester United welcomed Everton to Old Trafford – Bill Murphy, Dave Goodall and Paul Davies had gone for United and they go through with a 2-0 win. In the 3pm games, Bournemouth took on Sheffield United at the Vitality Stadium – 32 players had seen this as too good an opportunity and had picked the Cherries but a 2-2 draw means that a third of players drop out. Crystal Palace played Luton at Selhurst Park – Andrew Wilkinson and Paul Murphy had picked the Eagles but they also drop out after a 1-1 draw. In the tea-time game, Arsenal host Brentford at the Emirates – 20 players are hoping for another goal glut from the Gunners and they progress after a 2-1 win.
On Sunday, West Ham entertained Burnley at the London Stadium – 32 players were hoping for a Hammers win but a 2-2 draw sees another third of the players drop out. Brighton faced Nottingham Forest at the Amex – Lee Abbott, Linda Beaumont and Olly Woodward had picked the Seagulls and a 1-0 win puts them through. In the later game, Liverpool took on Manchester City at Anfield – Sandra Emmett had made a very bold choice by backing City and exits after a 1-1 draw.

A bit of an upset saw a total of 67 players drop out, leaving just 26 players still standing for Round 3! We might end up getting another game squeezed in before the end of the season after all!!! There is FA Cup action next weekend, followed by an international break – so deadline for Round 3 will be 7pm on FRIDAY 29th March.   A full update can be viewed here.

9th-11th March

And then there were three! Just one team has been picked in this round – nobody could pick Arsenal, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Manchester City or Tottenham.

On Saturday, in the 3pm games, Bournemouth hosted Sheffield United at the Vitality Stadium – Hayley Beaton, Kenny Rogers and Robin Horsler had picked the Cherries to to hopefully extend this game to Round 19. However, a 2-2 draw meant that they drop out and the game is now concluded. Rule 12 is now invoked – “Should less than five participants remain standing and all are eliminated in the same week then the prize pot will be equally shared among them.“. So the prize pot of £540 is shared equally three ways, meaning that Hayley, Kenny and Robin all get £180 each for their efforts! Well done to the three of them!
